Etcetera
Showcases
Showcases are designed for students who find exhibition dancing
exciting. At these events the students are the stars. They often dance
with their instructor and perform specially choreographed dance routines
to music
of their choice. Any level student can participate and friends
and family
are always amazed at the level of talent. There are spectacular
professional routines as well. Come out for an exciting afternoon at
our
next showcase, September 20, 2008. Until
then, check out past
showcase photographs in our Photo
Gallery.
Competitions
We encourage our students to get involved in competitive dancing.
Competitions are a great way to gain confidence, experience and have
fun, too! Set goals for yourself. Start small by dancing in a "spotlight
dance" with your instructor at one of our practice or guest parties.
Then
try performing for your family, friends and dance peers by dancing in
one
of our regularly scheduled showcases. After that, the world is your
oyster...Fred Astaire Competitions, Pro/Ams and regional and national
comps await you!
Take a
look at
photos from our most recent regional competition, the
Carolina Challenge.
Students
ranging from Preliminary Bronze to
Intermediate Silver competed.
Visiting
Coaches
Scheduling visiting coaches is one of the ways we expose our students
to the very best instruction. We take great pride in offering special
coaching with the dance industry's top teachers. Regular guest
instructors at our Raleigh studio include Bruce Hasson and Charlie
Penatello.
Bruce Hasson's dance credentials are:
Former Hustle Champion
American Smooth and Rhythm Finalist
International Standard and Theatre Arts
Finalist
Winner of several Top Teacher Awards
Charles Penatello's resume includes:
1967 Harvest Moon All-Around Champion
1975 Fred Astaire Novice and Rising Star
Champion
1982, '83, '84 Undefeated US Smooth and Latin
Champion
1984 Open to the World Champion
He has also performed on the Ed Sullivan Show
and at the
Kraft Music Hall.
FADS Clubs
FADS Clubs are a great way to get your newly acquired dance skills out
of the studio and out on the town! These dance parties are scheduled
approximately every six weeks and are dance events in the local area
with the Fred Astaire staff. They provide a comfortable and safe
environment
to practice what you have been learning in the studio. The
Starlight Club is a 2 hour dance party and
the Cotton Club is a 3 hour
party that
includes appetizers and cocktails before hitting the dance
floor.
